Ergonomics is the study of efficiency and safety for people in there working environment for tex processing operators.
Keyboard: Use padded wrist rests placed in the front of keyboard Cummins Area School should have padded wrist rests to prevent wrist strain. Don’t stretch fingers and tendons and use Microsoft Natural Keyboards it helps stop repetitive wrist strain.
Mouse: your mouse should be easy to reach and on an equal surface. Your index finger should be on left mouse button. Mouse on either side of keyboard a wrist wrest helps prevents RSI.
Monitor: Top screen should be below eye level. Adjust the monitor for maximum contrast and minimum brightness. Reduce reflections by tinting screen avoid spaces where monitor faces towards window light.
The Chair: A good designed adjustable chair can prevent posture problems. The chair should be able to adjust between 98 to 52cm high. Booth feet flat on the floor no pressure against lower back and thighs. Sit comfortably not to far back and don’t sit on edge of chair.
The Desk: Height adjustable keyboards 60 to 78cm off the ground also give yourself 40cm of leg room. Allow centre of screen to suit you. There should be enough room to fit all your stuff on desk. Allow 2.5cm to give you knee room.
Decor and Lighting: To reduce glare decorates room in pastel shades. Use blinds to prevent sunlight in room. Keep work station away from window to avoid reflections. Use natural light blinds to control light. In offices use an artificial light.
Room Temperature and Ventilation: Computers produce heat Make sure screen isn’t hard up against the wall. Heat and humidity can produce eye irritation. Air conditioning can make a dry atmosphere.
Noise: Printers’ photocopiers phones and other things make noise within the office. Move equipment away from workers to reduce noise volume within the office.
Health Problems: Some Health problems that can be problems are occupational overuse syndrome (OOS), repetitive strain injury (RSI) characterised by discomfort or pain in muscles and tendons.

- Poor work place layout
- Lack of education training skills
- Bad pick of furniture
Work Breaks: Operators brakes every 10 minutes to avoid eyestrain and posture problems. Every hour try to take a break to do filing.
Micropauses: Take a break in work to do some muscle relaxation for 5 to 10 seconds every 3 minutes this allows the restoration of blood flow. When muscles relax fully are micropauses of most value.
Exercises:
- Let your shoulders loose and shake your whole arm(s) holding your arms straight up and down.
- Let wrists go loose, move your arms back and forth to make your hands flap bending loosely at your wrist
- In a relaxed manner, circle your shoulders (hold the rest of your body as still as possible) so they describe the biggest circles possible. Let your arms loose and hold still while your shoulders move. Do big circles in both directions.
- Sometimes our work causes us to hold some muscles short and tight. These need gentle lengthening straighten your arms hold them down by your thighs, both ways. Hold for a few seconds at the extremes
- 1. Head upright, relaxed. Lower chin, then return. Pause tilt Head back, then return. 2. Shoulders still, head forwards. Bend head towards left shoulder, then return. Repeat on other side. Do not attempt full neck circles.

Eye Exercises: blink to prevent eyestrain. You can adjust screen if to bright. Wipe dust off screen regularly. To release tension in eyes gently squeeze.
